6 months

Never a dull moment here in Orlando. I mean it though. Every day at work there is some kind of emotional roller coaster to deal with.

For me, it's been hard living in a country that is at war, and being surrounded by American's that don't know why their stupid president is bombing almost every middle eastern country. This outrages me, but I guess it's easier for everyone here to turn a blind eye to reality.

Sigh. Is there a Canadian Support line I can call? Can I call it and we can point out the bullshit of the world together, and make fun of our leaders, be extremely cynical - as usual, read about some ACTUAL news, and talk about the weather for too long, and talk about how the weather was different last week, and talk about how the weather in other parts of Canada is the same/different, or talk about how we don't know if we want to eat some Vietnamese, Korean, Indian, Moroccan, or Ukrainian cuisine for dinner, and then go do a yoga class, and then check out Sandie Rinaldo's latest hair don't, and then compare how the British version of "The Office" is way better then the American version, then crack some crude jokes about global warming, then bitch about how you nearly got 'door-prized' while riding your bike to work, then bitch about how much the bus fares have gone up, and then bitch about how some homeless dude is stealing your cans from your blue bin - I mean recycling is a serious crime ya know, and then bitch about how some cyclist took up the whole lane while you were trying to drive your Mom to the local arts fair, and then admire the deer outside your kitchen window - but then get really pissed at them for eating all the flowers, and then check our email to see if we've heard from our crazy tree-planting friend to see if they've finally found a cure for their Christmas toe ails, and then go for a walk and pet a slug? Yes?

"Canada has never been a melting-pot; more like a tossed salad." - Arnold Edinborough

Well, I guess I'll have to continue to worship Rick Mercer... WHO BY THE WAY was recently on Vancouver Island!! I love him. I want to meet all 5 feet of him.

Yesterday, March 21st, marked exactly 6 months since I've been working for Disney. Did you notice?

I'll end this with a beautiful quote that I found recently by Winston Churchill, who I truly idolize. I have idolized him since I was a young girl and I have no idea why. I remember seeing his wax figure at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Victoria BC and I liked his grumpy mug, and how he sat with his hands showing a 'peace' sign, when really it was meant to stand for 'victory'. This quote brought me to tears as I love and miss Canada that much, enjoy:

"Canada is the linchpin of the English-speaking world. Canada, with those relations of friendly, affectionate intimacy with the United States on the one hand and with her unswerving fidelity to the British Commonwealth and the Motherland on the other, is the link which joins together these great branches of the human family, a link which, spanning the oceans, brings the continents into their true relation and will prevent in future generations any growth of division between the proud and the happy nations of Europe and the great countries which have come into existence in the New World." - Winston Churchill

MAD WORLD...and what else is new!

Ah yes, Keep Calm and Squeeze On. I'm surviving the deep South, or something like that...

Too much has happened to me over the past two weeks, it would probably do some damage if I told you, so I'll condense it to this: Bad US Doctor's visit/bigots/car breaking down/sobbing/Cirque du Soleil says 'no', again/Jesus loves you, this I don't want to know/sexual harassment/key falls off my accordion/sobbing.

I had two lovely musician friends that I made here, kidnap my poor culturally malnourished soul, take me to see the Duquesne University Tamburitzans concert in Leesburg, FL.

I was blown away by the selection of costumes, the colours and attention to detail and honouring the cultures of Serbia, Macedonia, Romania, Croatia, Bulgaria, Russia, and Poland.

There was traditional dance, singing, and live music. The accordion was a major factor in this ensemble, having two accordionists, but also a cymbalum was played, bouzoukis, and much more. What I was most impressed with was when a guy came out and played a tree. Well, it was actually an ancient flute, but it resembled a bassoon, only it was still in an organic shape, and stood far above the guys head. He also blew my mind (no pun intended) when he played a flute with no finger holes, and managed to form a triad on it.

I laughed, I cried, I bought their CD.

In other news... the creatively starved Accordion Girl has new life being breathed in to her.

This coming Monday, March 14th 2011, I will be a part of the 'BITCHES OF THE KINGDOM!:  A Sneak Peek!' Fringe fundraiser. This is a show that will be performed at this year's Orlando Fringe Festival, and is the brainchild of Dennis Giacino and Fiely Matias, aka The OOPS GUYS Comedy Troupe.

I will be singing a song, playing my accordion, at this fun 'sneak peek' night of antics.

To find out more about this show on Monday night, please visit my EVENTS page, and check out the article on "City's Best - Orlando" here:
